Working out a Problem

[Haley James]

Haley entered the tutor center to see Kathy, a fellow tutor bending over a file cabinet. Haley waved a quick hello to her and then went to her desk, and started to sort through paperwork she received from various teachers throughout the day.

Kathy asked, "Did you get your list of students yet that you need to tutor?"

Haley shook her head and responded, "It was not in my box this morning, I am assuming I will get it by the end of the day, tomorrow morning the latest..."

Haley wondered what deadbeats she would be getting this term, most of them were jocks, who just didnt apply themselves...This alway frustrated Haley and made her want to scream each time she had to sit down with one who could not simply do two plus two....

Haley saw Kathy smiling, and Haley asked, "What's so funny?"

Kathy laughed outloud and then gave her a sly look and stated, "I heard that the basketball team is in dire need of tutors, it might be us this term helping those idiots out....According to Coach Whitey, he is going ot give his players ultimatums...Shape the grades up or they are off the team..."

Haley groaned loudly...."This is just great....I hate when this..." She trailed off and then a realization hit her....There were only 4 tutors, and if the Captain of the team needed a tutor, there was a 1 in 4 chance she would wind up with him...Haley groaned again and Kathy gave her a puzzled look.

"We get paid to do this Haley, why are you so upset about dealing with the jocks?" Haley shrugged..She didnt want to explain, and honestly it was only a 25% chance she would wind up tutoring Nathan Scott, plus it might just work out that she could switch with another tutor if she did...No reason to panic yet...and there was definitely no reason to tell Lucas anything about it...

Haley heard her name being called and Haley turned to face the voice calling from the door of the tutor center...

(It could be anyone, or when I post again, it can be someone else I make up..hahaha)

[Brooke Davis]

Brooke took her time walking to the tutor center. She so didn't want to go. Last year she had some problems in math class and she almost didn't pass. But h*ll if she was going to the tutor center. Well, the math class this year was a continuation of last year'sclass so her teacher told her today to go to the tutor center and find a tutor. That way she would be ahead from the get go. Stupid teacher...

Brooke stood outside the door and groaned, only nerds hung out in there. She finally pushed open the door reluctantly and walked in...

"Um excuse me??" Brooke called out, expecting the help to come to her. When Haley turned around she realized it was the girl Lucas was always with..maybe it was his girlfriend or something.

"Mr. Smith told me to come down here..I hate that guy.." She said rolling her eyes..If it wasn't for the risk of cheering not being in her life, she would not be caught dead in there right now. She closed the door behind her, so no one would see her and then she looked back at Haley.
"Look, let's not waste either of our time, just make me like a cheat sheet or something and I'll be fine."

Brooke thought her idea was brilliant but would the tutor Haley James?

Haley stared at Brooke Davis, the captain of the cheer squad, and snorted...

"Um yea, cheat sheet it is...Come over here and sign your name to this sheet..."

Haley gestured to the sign up tablet, and when Brooke signed her name she appeared to be waiting...it dawned on Haley that she believed Haley, when Haley was only joking about the cheat sheet...Haley had to explain...

"Listen, if you need a tutor one of us will be more than willing to help out. It's ten bucks an hour, and we go over your weaknesses and your strengths, do you have a particular tutor in mind??" Haley prayed Brooke would not say her, afterall, what did the two of them really have in common?

Haley watched as Brooke digested the information, biting her lip as if in deep concentration. Haley rolled her eyes and added, "Listen if you are having this much difficulty with this maybe you don't need tutoring.."

Haley started to turn away, but then Brooke spoke up...making Haley turn around...

When Brooke signed the paper she smiled satisfied with herself, since obviously she was getting a cheat sheet and getting the heck out of there. But then Haley told her it wasn't..."What are you trying to say??" Brooke asked, feeling like Haley was insulting her. "It isn't like I actually know any of these people in here...or their names for that matter..and the money is no problem obviously." Didn't this girl know who she was seriously?

"You know what I think???" Brooke asked, about to lay it all out, but somehow she managed to hold it back and take a breath...she had to, in the name of cheering. "I'm only here because I have to be..not because I am stupid, just having some math problems. If it wasn't for cheering I so wouldn't be here..so let's make this easy for both of us. How about you just tell Mr. Smith I'm seeing a tutor? Then we don't have to waste each other's time and I'll figure something out..I always do. Win win for both of us." Brooke hoped this Haley girl gave her a good response, because she was getting irritated by this second. She didn't like the way this girl was talking to her, Brooke Davis, like she was nobody.

Haley didnt mean to but she was soon laughing out loud at this poor girl in front of her.

Haley glanced at Kathy and then back at this Brooke Davis girl, and Haley sighed. "Listen you have two choices, do the work or quit the cheer squad...It's your choice...If you excuse me, I have other students, who are willing to be helped, to figure out their best strategies...If you want the help, you know where the center is...Tell Mr. Smith hello for me..." Haley knew her last part of the statement dripped with a sarcastic tint to it...But this girl was really just too much, who did she think she was anyway?

[Brooke Davis]

"Whatever."Brooke didn't like how she was being treated, she was never treated this way. She hated this place. Brooke just spun around on heel and left the center as soon as she came.

Brooke would have looked for Peyton on the way to her last classes but the bell had already rung and she would already be late. But when she arrived at practice, she was still fuming.

GO TO FIELD HOUSE

Haley sighed deeply. If this Peyton chick was anything like Brooke, Lucas was sure in for a ride through b*tchtown...

Haley rolled her eyes as she saw Brooke turn on her heels and walk out of the center...She turned to see Kathy staring at her with her mouth open, and Haley shrugged...

She couldnt help but think this year would be very interesting...

Haley saw Lucas during her next two classes, but things went by so quick, Haley had hardly any time to talk to Lucas...not that she really wanted to...She was still bothered by his odd behavior.

After classes were officially over, Haley found herself at her locker, taking her books out, and then resting her head against her locker. Despite the awkward moments of the day, Haley decided the day was not so bad. But she could really use a nice mocha latte, with extra foam. Haley left school and headed for the riverwalk...
